| TEXAS VETERANS HOME 2010 | ||||||||
| On April 3, 2010 the Texas chapter of the VOVMC met in Floresville, Texas for a get-together. No Spokes and Redleg came from the Corpus Christi area. Prospect John came down from the Hill Country to meet Tracker in San Antonio and they rode to meet up in Floresville. We had a ceremony at a very nice, secluded part of the City Park on the river to patch in John (now Brother Mosey). Brother Mosey was not aware that he was going to get his center patch and was surprised and moved. He will be a very valuable asset to the VOVMC. After the ceremony, we all rode over the Texas Veteran's Home. This is the largest Veteran's Home in Texas with about 150 residents. Prior arrangements had been made and they were expecting us. The staff met us as we rode in and escorted us to a dining room where we were served lunch with several of the residents. After lunch we were taken around to the various day rooms and were able to talk to and visit with many of the residents. These Heroes are from WWII, Korea, and the Viet Nam War. The support and cooperation of the staff was amazing. All were very helpful and appreciative that we had come to see their Heroes. The home was the cleanest, nicest rest home I had ever seen. The residents, themselves, were universally glad to see us and have someone to talk with. We had all gathered small give-aways from various recruiters in San Antonio and Corpus Christi and there was plenty of stuff to give to the Heroes. Even the ones that couldn't speak were able to tell us with their eyes that they appreciated our visit. One fellow had been with Patton in Africa and when I asked him if George was as nice and gentle a guy as I had heard, all he did was laugh. (I took that as a no). Another had served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. Now that's a military career. When we gathered to leave and were talking in the parking lot every one of us admitted that, even considering how glad the Veterans were to see us, we received much more than we gave. It was a powerful experience and one I would encourage all Brothers to try. We will definitely schedule another visit. TEXAS PRESIDENT REDLEG VoVMC TEXAS CHAPTER WE WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL THE TEXAS BROTHERS FOR THIS UPDATE TO THE FOUNDING CHAPTER AND TEXAS PRESIDENT REDLEG's WRITE UP STORY.
